Grooming:
Like all other cats , the Sphynxs
groom themselves. However, due to the special
characteristics of this breed, they require extra care.
The hairless skin does not eliminate grease, and
therefore a weekly cleaning with baby body milk or
alcohol-free wipes as well as a monthly bath with an
appropriate shampoo is recommended. This procedure not
only favours the circulation but also avoids skin
problems (dermatitis).
Because of the hairless skin of the
Sphynx exposure to the sun may cause sunburns.
The eyes must be cleaned using for
instance a lotion or physiological serum.
The ears should be cleaned once a
week in order to avoid the build-up of a brown wax.
I usually use Otoclean that helps to
avoid otitis.
Keep paws and paw pads clean and trim
your cat’s nails using trimmers specifically designed
for cats.
Feeding:
Give your Sphynx mainly dry food of a
good brand. Due to the lack of hair this breed looses
heat, needing therefore a diet rich in calories. Always
have fresh clean water at the disposal of your cat.
All kittens must be dewormed once a
month until they reach the age of 6 months.
Then repeat the procedure every 6
months. Always do it before the yearly vaccination.
